THE ART OF CARE
At MARAZ, every piece is designed to stand the test of time. Leather is a living material that develops a beautiful patina over the years — as long as it is properly cared for. Here are our tips for preserving the beauty and durability of your creations.
Wipe your product with a soft, dry cloth after each use. This prevents dust from settling into the leather pores and preserves its natural sheen.
If your leather comes in contact with liquid, dab immediately with an absorbent cloth without rubbing. Let it air dry, away from any direct heat source.
Don't leave your bags closed for too long. Open them occasionally to let air circulate and prevent odours or mould, especially during the wet season.
Monthly ritual
Use a leather-specific cleansing milk or diluted Marseille soap. Apply with a soft cloth in circular motions, then wipe with a clean damp cloth.
Apply a colourless leather conditioning cream in a thin layer with a soft cloth. Let it absorb for 15 minutes then gently buff. This preserves suppleness and prevents cracking.
Once or twice a year, apply a leather-appropriate waterproofing spray. Spray from 20 cm away in even coats. This protects against water, stains and significantly extends the product's life.
Fill your bags with tissue paper (never newspaper) to help them retain their shape. Use the dustbag provided with every MARAZ product to protect them from dust.
Never store your leather in an airtight plastic bag. Leather needs to breathe. Opt for cotton covers or dustbags.
Keep your pieces in a place away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. UV rays can discolour leather and heat can dry it out.
Tips adapted to our environment
The Senegalese climate — heat, humidity and rainy season — requires special attention for your leather products.
Waterproof your items before the season. If your leather gets wet, let it dry naturally at room temperature — never in direct sunlight or near a fan.
Don't leave your bags or sandals in a car under the sun. Extreme heat dries out and cracks leather. Condition them more often during hot periods.
Place silica gel packets inside stored bags to absorb excess moisture and prevent mould, especially during the months of July to October.
