THE ART OF CARE

Caring for Your Leather Pieces

At MARAZ, every piece is designed to stand the test of time. Leather is a living material that develops a beautiful patina over the years — as long as it is properly cared for. Here are our tips for preserving the beauty and durability of your creations.

DAILY CARE

🧽

Dust regularly

Wipe your product with a soft, dry cloth after each use. This prevents dust from settling into the leather pores and preserves its natural sheen.

💧

Act quickly on stains

If your leather comes in contact with liquid, dab immediately with an absorbent cloth without rubbing. Let it air dry, away from any direct heat source.

🌿

Air out your bags

Don't leave your bags closed for too long. Open them occasionally to let air circulate and prevent odours or mould, especially during the wet season.

CLEANING & CONDITIONING

Monthly ritual

01

Clean

Use a leather-specific cleansing milk or diluted Marseille soap. Apply with a soft cloth in circular motions, then wipe with a clean damp cloth.

02

Nourish

Apply a colourless leather conditioning cream in a thin layer with a soft cloth. Let it absorb for 15 minutes then gently buff. This preserves suppleness and prevents cracking.

03

Waterproof

Once or twice a year, apply a leather-appropriate waterproofing spray. Spray from 20 cm away in even coats. This protects against water, stains and significantly extends the product's life.

STORAGE

Stuff your bags

Fill your bags with tissue paper (never newspaper) to help them retain their shape. Use the dustbag provided with every MARAZ product to protect them from dust.

Avoid plastic

Never store your leather in an airtight plastic bag. Leather needs to breathe. Opt for cotton covers or dustbags.

Cool and dry place

Keep your pieces in a place away from direct sunlight and excessive humidity. UV rays can discolour leather and heat can dry it out.

LEATHER & TROPICAL CLIMATE

Tips adapted to our environment

The Senegalese climate — heat, humidity and rainy season — requires special attention for your leather products.

Rainy season (Hivernage)

Waterproof your items before the season. If your leather gets wet, let it dry naturally at room temperature — never in direct sunlight or near a fan.

Heat and sun

Don't leave your bags or sandals in a car under the sun. Extreme heat dries out and cracks leather. Condition them more often during hot periods.

Humidity

Place silica gel packets inside stored bags to absorb excess moisture and prevent mould, especially during the months of July to October.

WHAT TO AVOID

  • Never use detergent, alcohol or solvent on leather
  • Never dry leather with a hairdryer or near a heater
  • Never iron leather
  • Don't overload your bags — this deforms the leather and wears out the stitching
  • Don't use coloured shoe polish unsuited to your leather's shade
  • Don't neglect seams and clasps — clean them too

SANDAL CARE

Our MARAZ Padam sandals deserve special attention:

  • Let them air out after each wear, especially in warm weather
  • Clean the insoles with a slightly damp cloth
  • Apply conditioning cream to the leather straps once a month
  • Alternate with another pair to let the leather rest
